The creation of the Goldback relies on 5th generation vacuum deposition technology. The designs are printed on a sheet of polymer that is then bombarded with the correct amount of atomized gold particles in a vacuum chamber. This gold is then sealed inside by a second protective barrier of polymer, thus creating a beautiful negative image. Valaurum has been developing the process for nearly two decades and it has never been counterfeited. It is truly the most technologically advanced process for creating a physical gold money in the world today.

The passage of the Utah Legal Tender Act in 2011 prompted the introduction of a local, voluntary currency known as the Utah Goldback, accepted by certain businesses in Utah. The Goldbacks are available in five denominations, each featuring a distinct design inspired by Roman mythology, illustrated with full color high resolution graphics and text. The notes are created from Aurum, which is a thin layer of 24 karat gold coated on each side with a durable polyester film. Accepted as voluntary local currency within the state of Utah, this 10 Utah Goldback is minted with 1/100 Troy oz. of .999 fine gold.

Justitia, the Roman goddess of Justice, is illustrated on the obverse wearing a blindfold to symbolize her lack of bias. She hold in her hands a sword representing fair judgement, and the Scale of Balance to signify the ideal that true justice is served with a balance of faith. Inscribed "TEN UTAH GOLDBACKS," "VOLUNTARY LOCAL CURRENCY" and "1/100 TROY OUNCE 24K GOLD."

A mirror image of the obverse design appears on the reverse as a result of the note's innovative minting method.
