The US silver half dollar is a coin that was produced by the United States Mint from 1794 to 1964. The coin was made of 90% silver and 10% copper and had a face value of 50 cents. The weight of the coin was 12.5 grams and its diameter was 30.6 millimeters.

The design of the US silver half dollar has changed several times over the years. Some of the most popular designs include:

  • Liberty Walking half dollar (minted between 1916-1947)
  • Franklin half dollar (minted between 1948-1963)
  • Kennedy half dollar (minted between 1964 to present)

The Liberty Walking half dollar features an image of Lady Liberty walking on the obverse side, while the reverse side depicts an eagle in flight. The Franklin half dollar features an image of Benjamin Franklin on the obverse side, while the reverse side depicts a Liberty Bell. The Kennedy half dollar features a portrait of President John F. Kennedy on the obverse side, while the reverse side depicts the presidential seal.

In addition to their silver content, some US silver half dollars are also highly collectible due to their rarity or historical significance. These coins can command high premiums from collectors and investors.

The production of US silver half dollars for circulation was halted in 1964 due to rising silver prices and the increasing demand for silver bullion. However, the coin is still produced in limited quantities for collectors and special occasions.
